Founder’s Letter

To all my former Arts Effect students,

This site is for you. The history you made and the lives you changed—simply by being yourselves and sharing your voice—will forever be remembered, forever be honored. Without you, there would be no Arts Effect.

At such a young age, each of you created powerful, lasting change. Whatever classroom or project you were a part of, you consistently showed up ready and willing to be your most vulnerable, authentic selves. Over the course of countless Arts Effect performances, you impacted every audience member—man, woman and child—with the work you did.

I spent a decade inspired by your strength and bravery. From the six year old who overcame stage fright, to the student who played last-minute understudy, from the lead who flew cross country to further the conversation around sexual assault, to those who rode the bus to the state capital to lobby for legislation: your power is undeniable. Ruth Bader Ginsberg famously said, “Fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” That you did….

My wish for all of you is that you keep “risking and investing” and being vulnerable. Keep being kind and generous collaborators. Keep sharing your voice while listening to others. And never doubt the extraordinary and unique power of our work together. I hope you feel as proud of yourselves as I do of each and every one of you. Can’t wait to see and hear about all the incredible things you continue to do in your lives.

With lots of love always,
Xx
